BASSENTHWAITE — For the second event in a row, a writer from Second Life News has won the bull riding competition at Dusty’s Rock-n-Country Lounge. BB Brody again took the win riding Bart, an approximately 1200-lb animated SL bull, with a time of 102.76 seconds. But perhaps most amazing was that his top challenger was a 5-year-old-girl, Tawnee Tone, whose time was an astonishing 101.68. Tone had no fear of big bumping bulls.

“Me no scardy cat! Me only scared of ‘sploders!” Tone said.

A girl of few words, young Tone was here with her mother, Sexy Tones, another contender in the bull riding event held here almost every night at Dusty’s. They are not alone in what is becoming a growing sport here in Second Life. On the night of this event, there were no less than ten contestants competing for the $L500 top prize, and the number of riders is growing by the week.

Unlike Real Life bull riding, there is no danger involved here in SL. Hostess Mia Darracq, who handles the scoring of the competition, said “It’s safe, and there is no actual skill involved. It’s all random as to who can stay on the bull the longest.” Random or not, all the contestants agreed that a few seconds on Bart was a thrilling experience. Nor was it easy to stay on the bull. Times at tonight’s event ranged from 6 seconds up to the winner’s time of a little less than two minutes, with the average ride being approximately 30 seconds. By the rider obtaining a view with Mouselook or Camera View, the realism experienced while on board the bucking bull is missing little short of physical pain and dirty jeans.

Since opening in late July, Dusty’s has become a Mecca for those SL residents wishing for some good clean fun. In addition to the bull riding competition, regular events run every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and include leather-n-lace contests, sexy legs, swimwear, formals, and a Disco contest. “All of our events are PG rated ...they do not revolve around nudity or sex or any kind of sexual behavior,” club co-owner Chloe Carlos said.

Even though the name states that this club serves up both Rock and Country music, it is clear from the songs played by the DJ that Country music is the most popular style here. “My favorite performer is Rascal Flatts,” Carlos said. Hostess Mia Darracq was quick to add, “Keith Urban! I've seen him in concert 7 times, and I've met him once!”

Like any good country lounge, dancing is also popular here, although there are no poles or strippers to be seen. Line dancing seems to be king here, with a liberal amount of salsa and slow-dance balls as well.

In addition to those attending the bull riding event, it was obvious that the club attracts a large crowd. When asked the reason for Dusty’s success, both Carlos and Darracq were quick to point to the clientele. “The patrons are the best. Very polite and we hardly ever have problems,” Darracq said. “We also have the best staff,” Carlos added. And, this reporter will add, the orneriest bull this side of Texas.
