SLNN OFFICES - Educators have a new resource for tips and support in using Second Life in the classroom.
The SL-Education.org blog began a short time ago at the request of Linden Lab. Sarah “Intellagirl” Robbins is heading this group of eight leading SLED contributors to initiate the blog. Current bloggers are Stan Trevena, Alan Levine, Jeremy Kemp, Jeremy Hunsinger, Beth Ritter-Guth, Peggy Sheehy, Chris Collins and Robbins.
To start, each of the eight bloggers have picked a “beat” such as community college, education tools, learning management systems, etc. Kindergarten through grade 20 education topics using SL will be covered.
“I think the new blog is an awesome opportunity for educators to collaborate,” Ritter-Guth said. “It also lets us know that Linden Lab is aware of our work and is willing to listen to our organized thoughts about issues and efforts that impact educators. Mostly, though, it allows us to showcase our work in SL.”
Robbins added “I’m a long time education blogger but this particular blog was initiated via a request from Claudia Linden. LL is excited by the growth in education projects and hoped that I, and others from the community, would start an official source of information for new and experienced SLEDers.”
Although Claudia Linden responded on two occasions that she would get back to SLNN with responses, no responses to questions were received. It is unknown if Linden Lab plans to link the blog from their general SL education Web pages.
Educators have always been able to turn to the education wiki http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Second_Life_Education_Wiki for information. The SLED (Second Life Educators) mailing list has been in existence since October 2005 and 18,801 messages have been shared among its users during this time.
